ROLL-OUT OF OVI-LARVICIDAL TRAP SYSTEM FOR AEDES MOSQUITO IN CALASIAO, PANGASINAN
The Mosquito Ovicidal/Larvicidal Trap or Mosquito OL Trap is a system used to help control the population of the dengue-carrying Aedes mosquitoes. The Mosquito OL-Trap has three important parts: a black container, a small strip of lawanit measuring 1” x 5” (like an ice drop stick) for mosquitoes to lay their eggs on, and a bio-larvicide solution to kill the mosquito larvae that will hatch in the strip of wood and in the solution.
The roll-out of this system in Calasiao, Pangasinan was formally undertaken last May 25, 2011, after a seminar conducted by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) representatives, Engr. Felipe Andrada and Felicidad Tan. Also present were Dr. Calugay of the PHTO, DOH and other members of the team. Three barangays will have the initial opportunity for the application of the system, Bued, Buenlag and Macabito. This system will be adopted by the Health Office as a major part of its thrust in controlling Dengue Fever in the Municpality.
